It is strongly recommended. A LiPo bag helps contain a fire if a pack fails during charging or storage, which is cheap insurance for an expensive risk.

Put the pack inside, close it, and charge or store it in the bag on a non-flammable surface away from anything that could catch fire.

Choose one that fits your largest pack with room to spare. If you charge several packs, a larger bag or box is more convenient.
