Frequent Questions & Answers
What do I need to run a nitro RC car?

To run a nitro RC you need nitro fuel, a glow plug and a glow igniter to start it, plus a fuel bottle to refuel. Air filter oil, after-run oil and a few tuning tools keep the engine healthy. Everything for that job is in this category.

What is nitro fuel?

Nitro fuel is a blend of methanol, nitromethane and oil that powers glow engines. A higher nitro percentage gives more power. Match the fuel to what your engine maker recommends.

What does a glow plug do?

The glow plug ignites the fuel in a nitro engine. A glow igniter heats it to start the engine, then the engine’s own heat keeps it glowing so it keeps firing. A worn plug makes starting and idling difficult.

How often should I change the glow plug?

It depends on use, but the plug wears with every run, so many racers change it regularly. Swap it if the engine gets hard to start, idles poorly or loses its tune. Keeping spares is cheap insurance.

What is after-run oil for?

After-run oil protects the engine between sessions. You add a few drops after draining the fuel, which displaces moisture and stops internal rust. Use it whenever the model will sit unused for a while.
